Yanapuma’s Professional Medical Spanish Program is a dedicated course for medical professionals and students, designed to provide a solid grounding in medical and health-related Spanish. After successfully completing this course you will be able to communicate fluently and competently in Spanish to patients and staff in your particular field.
The Professional Medical Spanish Course requires at least an intermediate level of Spanish in order for students to be able to fully benefit from the materials and scope of the course. For those whose level is not sufficiently advanced we recommend our Introductory Medical Spanish Course. The focus for the Professional Medical Spanish Course is on developing the vocabulary and usage in oral and written medical Spanish and understanding how patients and health professionals talk about illness and treatment in Spanish.
The Professional Medical Spanish program is offered in three options:
- 4 weeks (80 hours) in Quito with practicum
- Half in Quito and half online
- Online only (80 hours)
Daily one-to-one classes are personalized to your particular needs and specialty, and are split between normal Spanish at intermediate or advanced level and specifically medical Spanish, using a wide range of printed, electronic and interactive media. Included in the course material are:
- A complete set of medical charts of the human body with all the
parts labeled in Spanish. - A book of exercises
- Manuals of medicine in specialty areas
- An audio recording of the dialogues presented in the text
- A book of medical readings
- Tests of medical knowledge in Spanish
- Videos of consultations and medical conversations
- A collection of website links and web materials on general and specific topics
- The above materials on a CD to keep.
Half and Half - Professional Medical Spanish program
For the busy professional who cannot afford to take a whole month off to travel to Quito, or for those students on a tight budget, we offer the program as a combination of online classes with 2 weeks in Quito. The same materials, the same quality instruction, but without the practicum (which gives you more time to sightsee and enjoy Quito), and without the $200 donation which goes with the practicum.
The program consists of:
- 30-40 hours of live online Medical Spanish classes
- 40-50 hours (2 weeks) of classes in Quito
- 15 days homestay with two meals
- Textbook, materials, CD, etc
- Certification of course completion
